This position is located a the DHS/U. S. Coast Guard, Director of Logistics, Base Portsmouth, Facilities Engineering Division, Portsmouth, VA.

Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to perform air conditioning mechanic work including the maintenance, repair, modifications, overhaul, installation, layout and inspection of a variety of air conditioning, industrial and domestic refrigeration, and heating equipment, including hot water and steam boilers.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.  Typical work assignments include:

* Installing, operating, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and making both minor and major repairs to a variety of air-conditioning, heating and refrigeration systems and equipment

* Maintaining and repairing HVAC&R components such as compressors, ice machines, water coolers, refrigerators, freezers, dryers, heat pumps, heaters, blowers, fans, service valves, expansion valves, dampers, condensers, pumps, control systems, duct work, mixing boxes, air handling units thermostats, piping motors, driver assemblies, evaporators, filters, vents, motors, relays and other components

* Maintaining and repairing boilers to include, but not limited to steam or hot water heating sources; fuel storage and handling, feed water, condensate, fuel filters and strainers, flue, gas, and air system equipment; miscellaneous pumps and plant instrumentation

* Disassembling and reassembling boilers in preparation for inspection
