This position is located in the Adult Intensive Care Unit, Critical Care Nursing Department, Directorate for Nursing Services, Naval Medical Center, San Diego, California.

 

Direct Hire: This notice is issued under the direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which Department of the Navy has a severe shortage of candidates or a critical hiring need.  As such, this notice is targeted to qualified United States citizens who are not current permanent Federal employees.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

As a Nurse Specialist (Critical Care), your duties may include but are not limited to:

 

  • ·  Providing comprehensive nursing care for critically ill patient populations including adults and geriatrics in an intensive care environment.
  • ·   Implement plans of care, provide oversight of the care delivery, improve outcomes and assure quality of care for patients.

  • ·  Contributing to the examination of patients by observing, recognizing and reporting changes in patients’ conditions, reaction to medications and response to therapy and treatment modalities.

·   Collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes.

To qualify for Nurse Specialist (Critical Care) , GS-0610-09, your qualifications must include:  

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

 

*Experience assessing nursing needs for each intensive care patient consistent with recognized Nursing standards.

*Experience performing special tests and procedures such as tracheostomy care, tube feedings, bladder catheterization, nasopharyngeal and gastric suctioning, and emergency cardioversion.

* Experience contributing to the medical examination of patients by observing, recognizing, recording or reporting changes in patient’s conditions.

Or

You have at least two full years of progressively higher level graduate education, or a master’s or equivalent degree.

Or

You have a combination of the experience as described above which, when combined, is equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement.

 

To qualify for Nurse Specialist (Critical Care) , GS-0610-10, your qualifications must include:  

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

 

* Experience providing individualized health care information for patients throughout hospitalization ensuring achievement of transfer or discharge objectives.

 

          * Experience identifying life threatening conditions in order to initiate appropriate treatment in the absence of a medical officer.

 

* Experience collaborating in the development and evaluation of standards of care for patients. 

Or

You have at least two and a half years of progressively higher level graduate education.

Or

You have a combination of the experience as described above which, when combined, is equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement.

 

 

 

To qualify for Nurse Specialist (Critical Care) , GS-0610-11, your qualifications must include:  

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

* Experience operating and troubleshooting highly specialized equipment such as cardiac/respiratory monitoring systems.

 

* Experience using pharmacological knowledge to titrate potent vasoactive medications.

 

* Experience making staff assignments, guiding, directing, and supervising nursing personnel in the completion of their duties during a shift.

   

Or

You have at least three full years of progressively higher level graduate education, or I have completed all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in nursing or a closely related field, which has equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position.

Or
You have a combination of the experience as described above which, when combined, is equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement.

REQUIREMENTS: 

Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.

You must have a diploma or degree from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed OR have one year of nursing experience as a military corpsman that has been accepted by a State licensing body.

You must have an active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States or have you graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months.

You must have a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

You must have an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
