Supervisory Medical Instrument Technician (GI) PD# 11097-0

The incumbent serves as technical expert and accomplishes work through combined technical and administrative direction of others who provide wards, clinics, operating rooms and other hospital facilities with sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instruments, sets, and equipment, including processing disassembling, cleaning, and decontaminating instrumentation and equipment items. SPS receives, distributes critical and semi-critical medical instrumentation and equipment devices, and performs decontamination and sterilization ensuring a continuous flow of sterile and highly disinfected instruments and equipment to all points of use. The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Endoscopic areas and serves as technical expert. Directs/participates in ongoing unit training and infection control and performance improvement programs. Oversees, and if necessary, sets up procedure room for endoscopy, EUS, ERCP procedures. Oversees set up of all necessary accessories or supplies for endoscopy procedures and manometric studies. Oversees and maintains re-usable medical instruments and equipment for diagnostic and treatment procedures. Determines technical factors, sets controls and operates equipment and instruments. Responsible for timely and accurate analysis of quality reports. Tracks, maintains and provides data and analysis reports pertaining to workflow productivity, reprocessing equipment and Re-usable Medical Equipment (RME), expenditures and supplies. Assesses and ensures staff compliance with safety requirements, establishes inventory and equipment maintenance requirements and maintains appropriate inventories and maintenance schedules.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

CITIZENSHIP: – Must be a United States Citizen

EXPERIENCE: Must have at least one year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level (GS-8) which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the duties of the positions filled. This would be experience which provided knowledge of proper performance of endoscopic equipment and procedures. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAOs:

1.     Advanced knowledge of complex gastroenterology procedures, such as ERCP with spy glass, ablation procedures, mucosal resection procedures, fine needle aspiration procedures and capsule studies.

2.     Ability to provide briefings and orientations, staff development and training to hospital staff including physicians.

3.     Knowledge of professional, legal, and ethical standards inherent to patient safety and rights.

4.     Ability to plan assist in the establishment of integrated treatment and examination programs.

5.     Ability to evaluate new products and equipment and make recommendations concerning developments which would improve operations.

6.     Ability to manage the fiscal matters of the functions supervised (which would include fund controls, contracts, and equipment expenditures), forecast resource and equipment needs, and administer the allocated budget.

7.     Ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties which would include responsibility for assignment of work to be performed; performance evaluation; selection of staff; and recommendation of awards, advancements, and, when appropriate, disciplinary actions.
