The Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruiting for a Social Worker Program Coordinator - Director of the Veterans Addictions Recovery Center (VARC). The Social Worker Program Coordinator (VARC) will function in Psychiatry Service.  The Social Worker Program Coordinator (VARC) duties include:

  • Asserting board administrative and clinical management responsibilities for programs associated with the Veterans Addiction Recovery Center (VARC), which includes oversight for the operation and management of multiple specialized treatment programs both outpatient and residential, such as: Gambling treatment, Women's Residential Treatment Program, Opioid Replacement, and Intensive Outpatient Programs.
  • Overseeing strategic development, implementation, and outcome monitoring of VARC clinical care, assessment processes, intervention strategies, and distribution of patients across the continuum of care.
  • Assisting in making judgments concerning recruitment, training and work management of professional staff.
  • Coordinating clinical care with other sections of mental health and the Medical Center to ensure continuity of care.
  • Providing clinical oversight and case consultation on complex cases, serving as expert resource to multi-disciplinary team, and consulting with medical and/or mental health staff on a wide range of patient care issues, including development or evaluation of behavioral health intervention programs.
  • Serving Medical Center, VISN, and/or National VA committees or task forces that provide guidance and consultation around programs and services on substance abuse and mental health needs.
  • Maintaining responsibility for the management, administration, and clinical operation of all staff and each VARC program and MHACC.
  • Maintaining and enhancing skills, as well as recommending staff training needs to the Education Committee.
  • Maintaining responsibility for the management, administration, and clinical operation of all staff and each VARC program.

The work schedule for this position is primarily Monday-Friday 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m. with evenings/weekends as necessary. This position requires some flexibility in work hours and there is 24 hour accountability.

Basic Requirements:

  • Education: Applicants must possess a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work.
  • Licensure: Applicants must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.

Grade Determinations:

  • Advanced Practice Level: Applicants must be licensed or certified at the advance practice level and able to provide supervision for subordinate staff to qualify for licensure.
  • Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess at least 1 year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service (GS-12) to qualify at the GS-13 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Social Worker Program Coordinator, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position. Social Worker Program Coordinators manage the administrative and clinical aspects of a major specialty treatment program, such as PTSD, Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SAW), home-Based Primary Care (HBPC), etc., or a combination of programs located at one facility or multiple divisions of a facility. They have responsibility for coordinating interdisciplinary staffing, work assignments, budget, treatment services provided, and admission criteria for the program. They may also supervise employees assigned to the program.
