WORK SCHEDULE:  MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY - 8:00AM TO 4:30PM

Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.

Applicant's education and experience will be reviewed by a Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.  The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.

 

The Nurse Recruiter is a highly visible, accessible nurse leader who reports directly to the Supervisor for Nurse Recruitment and Retention.          

  • Collaborates with Nursing Service Administration and Human Resources Management Service to recruit and hire all levels of nursing staff for Nursing Service including interviewing, credentialing and the appointment process.
  • Works collaboratively with Nursing Service to assess and forecast staffing needs and to implement measures to meet these needs.
  • Collaborates with the Nursing Service Administrative Officer and Human Resources Management Service to insure compliance with Service wide budgeted FTE.
  • Works with Human Resources Management Service to advertise nursing vacancies using a variety of creative approaches including job fairs.
  • Works with all Services in the Health Care System who employ nurses to recruit, hire, credential and board all RNs, RNPs and LVNs in the Health Care System.
  • Oversees the effective operation of the Nurse Professional Standards Boards (NPSB) and the LVN Boards.
  • Works closely with the Board Secretary in expediting the boarding process for RNs and LVNs.
  • Oversees the operations of the VetPro credentialing process for RNs and LVNs.
  • Serves as primary resource for chairs of NPSB and LVN Boards, and VetPro credentialing.
  • Communicates with applicants using a variety of measures, i.e. phone, fax, email and letter regarding vacancies, qualifications, benefits and the appointment process.
  • Works collaboratively with Human Resources Management Service to expedite hiring of all RNs, LVNs, and RNPs.
  • Collaborates with OWCP Case Manager to facilitate placement.
  • Collaborates with the New Grad Program Manager to facilitate placement and retention of new RN graduates.
  •  Works collaboratively with the staffing office to credential all Registry staff.
  • Accessible as resource to nursing staff and develops retention and recognition programs for nursing staff.

Citizen of the United States. 

  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:  The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). 
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia .  In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.    
  • Must be proficient in spoken and written English .

Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.   Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.    Education/Experience Requirements: 

  • Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience. 
  • Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.

The following are preferred requirements for this position:

  • BSN required and MSN strongly preferred with minimum of three (3) years current professional nursing experience required with progressive expanded role or administrative function role.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to function both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability including self direction, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with all levels of staff throughout the VA Palo Alto Health Care System and with Community organizations.
  • Marketing and sales experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the VA Palo Alto Health Care System and individual Service organizational structures.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires Light Lifting, under 15 pounds, Light Carrying under 15 pounds,  reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking & standing 8 hours – intermittently; repeated bending; both legs required; ability for rapid mental & muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable @ 13” to 16” to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aide permitted). The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations.
