The incumbent performs a variety of food service duties in support of the VCS food production services.  Consistent with VCS food standards, guidelines, and instructions, the incumbent assists with the preparation, presentation, and subsequent serving of prepared food items.  In accordance with established serving schedules, menu planners, and VCS food standards, prepares for baking, dessert specials, biscuits, frozen cookies, pretzels, or other items as directed by the cook, supervisor,  or his/her designee.  Assists in portioning and packaging a variety of meats on a weekly basis for deli bar, vending machines, or other areas.  Prepares and packages sandwiches, mixes salads, and or assists in preparing salads such as : col slaw, macaroni, potato, etc.  The incumbent performs duties on the serving line greeting customers in a friendly and courteous manner.  Complies with portion control standards as well as sanitation and housekeeping provisions regarding food handling, storage, and serving.  Defrosts, fills, and maintains frozen yogurt for the yogurt machine based on demand and product variety.  Fills ice machines or other dispensers and rotates and stocks assorted bottled/canned beverages, sandwiches, or other food items for the refrigerated display cases.  Assures all food stuffs, paper goods, forks, knives, etc. are stocked (maintained) in preparation for the daily operation of assigned shops.  Incumbent complies with all safety and health provisions addressing sanitation and food handling.  Ensures refrigeration of food; liquid, meats, etc., and that they are properly wrapped and stored avoiding contamination or spoilage.  Keeps assigned food areas clean at all times.  Cleans machines, dishes, dishwashers, dispensers, refrigerators, display cases, mixers, etc., as necessary or required.  Uses hair nets, hats, rubber gloves, and practices good personal hygiene when working with or around food.  Assist in ordering food, milk, frozen yogurt, bottled beverages, paper miscellaneous baking/ food supplies, etc.  Assists in the receipt and storage of daily/weekly deliveries.  May be required to operate a cash register.  Operates equipment  as required and in accordance with instructions; ex: cash register, dishwasher, electric can opener, vegetable chopper, conveyor toaster, steam table, fry saver, broaster, breader, mixer, and sandwich packager.  A more detailed description of the duties of the position is available in the Human Resources Management Service.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 

Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work requires constant standing, bending, stooping, and stretching with frequent lifting up to 40 lbs. and occasionally over 40 lbs.
