This vacancy is for an Office Automation Technician, GS-0326-07, position located at the Philadelphia Regional Office, Philadelphia, PA.

One year probationary period may be required.

Relocation expenses may be paid.

This is a non-bargaining unit position.

This position may be filled through means other than the competitive promotion process.

The work schedule for this position is Mixed Tour. With a Mixed Tour work schedule, an employee may be changed between full-time, part-time and intermittent work schedules to accommodate fluctuating workloads and is subject to a signed agreement.

The individual selected for this position will:

  • Provide technical support and assistance to the Regional Office Computer Specialist for office automation and laptop activities.
  • Develop methods for automating administrative and program reports.
  • Set up procedures to enter and to retrieve the data.
  • Ensure that proper software has been installed and is ready for shipment to the field representatives.
  • Establish, reset, and delete passwords.
  • Select the most appropriate software for automating office work based on the nature of the work and the characteristics of available software types.
  • Provide instructions for other employees on the methods and procedures for using the selected software.
  • Act as the point of contact for laptop hardware, software, and telecommunications problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To be minimally qualified for this position, applicants MUST have a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute with 3 or fewer errors based on a five-minute sample.

In addition to meeting the Basic Entry Requirement above, you must also have the specialized experience below:

GRADE 07: EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the grade 06 level. Specialized experience is work experience providing technical support for laptop computers; installing hardware/software packages; troubleshooting problems, developing and preparing program reports; maintaining electronic mail and telecommunications in order to support office automation activities.

EDUCATION: Cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

We will review your resume, optional cover letter and supporting documentation (transcripts if applicable) to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications for the position.  If you meet the minimum qualifications stated in the vacancy announcement, we will compare your resume, optional cover letter and supporting documentation to your responses on the scored occupational questionnaire that you completed as part of the application and place you in one of three pre-defined categories.  These categories are "gold," "silver," and "bronze."  However, your resume and/or optional cover letter must support your responses to the occupational questions, or your score will be lowered.  Candidates placed in the “gold” category will be identified for referral to the hiring manager and may be invited for an interview.

How you will be evaluated for preference eligibility: Within each category, those entitled to veterans' preference will be listed at the top of the pre-defined category for which they are placed.  Preference eligibles with a service-connected disability of 10% or more will be listed at the top of the highest quality category (gold) for all positions except for Professional and Scientific positions at the grade 9/ band II and above.

The scored occupational questionnaire will evaluate you on the following competencies; please do not provide a separate written response:

1.) Ability to provide technical support and assistance for laptop computers such as installing hardware, software, telecommunication packages and troubleshooting problems.

2.) Knowledge of laptop computers.

3.) Knowledge of the capabilities, operating characteristics, and advanced functions of a variety of types of office automation software, e.g., database, spreadsheet, and word processing; and knowledge of the similarities, differences, and integration of the different software types.

4.) Knowledge of computer hardware, software, electronic mail and telecommunications.

5.) Knowledge of inventory tracking systems.
