This position is assigned to the Risk Management Agency, Deputy Administrator for Product Management, Product Administration and Standards Division, Loss Adjustment Standards Branch, located in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.

As the Chief, Loss Adjustment Standards Branch, the selectee:

  • Directs, coordinates and supervises the work activities of a staff of professional, administrative, and support personnel. Develops formal plans of work to be accomplished and establishes deadlines. Formulates and executes short and long-range plans and, based on program evaluation, adjusts or refines program objectives.
  • Responsible for ensuring timely performance of a satisfactory amount and quality of subordinates' work. Reviews work progress and reschedules work as required to meet deadlines.
  • Justifies, defends, negotiates and settles matters involving significant or controversial issues related to overall loss adjustment standards, appropriate needs and systems and their effect on the private sector insurance companies and agencies, and other RMA program areas.

To qualify at the GS-14 level, applicants must have at least one full-time year (12 months) of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service (or private sector equivalent) that has equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and is typically in, or related to, the work of this position. Specialized experience must demonstrate expert knowledge of programs, policies, procedures, and regulations applicable to insurance, reinsurance, or risk management. 

 


THE SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION IS NOT QUALIFYING FOR THE GS-14 LEVEL.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS:  Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the time-in-grade restriction.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION AND FINGERPRINT CHECK: Selection and retention in this position is contingent on a successfully adjudicated FBI National Criminal History Check (fingerprint check) and a background investigation.

SUPERVISORY PROBATIONARY PERIOD: Section 303 of the Civil Service Reform Act (Public Law 95-454) established a probationary period of one year for newly appointed managers and supervisors.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

In addition to your Occupational Questionnaire and Online Resume, other documents may be required.

1) If you are applying for Veteran Preference, submit evidence of eligibility, such as DD-214 (Member Copy - 4), Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, or Application for 10-point Veteran Preference (Standard Form 15), and the proof requested on the form.

2) If you are a current or former Federal employee, you  must provide the most current Notification of Personnel Action (Form SF-50) that verifies career-conditional/career status, position title, series and grade (do not submit an Award SF-50). FSA County employees must provide the most recent Notification of Personnel Action (Form SF-50-B or FSA-50) that verifies permanent status. Also provide the SF-50 that reflects the highest grade level held on a permanent basis or the full performance level of your current position, whichever is higher. Failure to do so will result in an ineligible rating.

3) If you are a current Federal employee, you  must submit your most recently completed annual performance appraisal (dated within 18 months) which identifies the employee's official rating of record, signed by the supervisor, or a statement advising why the performance appraisal is unavailable.  Do not submit a performance plan. Failure to do so will result in an ineligible rating.
