This position provides administrative/clerical assistance and support to the field office personnel and is supervised by the SE Area Conservationist.  See duties section.   

 

Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.

MAJOR DUTIES: 

 

Skill in operating a personal computer

 

Maintains personal commitment to office wide philosophy of teamwork that ensures flow of overall field office operations in a cooperative mannger.  Maintains confidentiality of information related to supervisor's work and related work of others.

 

Responsible for mail duties on a daily basis.  Receive incoming mail, date stamping and distributing mail to the proper staff/person and packaging and metering outgoing mail.

 

Responsible for purchasing office supplies and equipment by blanket agreement, purchase order or government purchase card.

 

Serves as the prinicpal field office telephone contact with the public.

 

Responsible for printing conservation program generated vouchers and assimilating various supporting documents needed for certification of payments by the certifying official.  Maintains files of completed payments.

 

Prepares correspondence from handwritten, rough draft copy and/or verbal instructions.  Prepares material such as bulletins, special reports, agreements, forms, charts, etc.  Creates and maintains various databases and mailing lists.

 

Serves as timekeeper for assigned staff using automated timekeeping system.  Resolves routing problems and issues.

For grade GS-7: You must have one or more years of specialized experience comparable to the GS-6 which is directly related to the work of this position and equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.  For this position specialized experience is fulfilled by the following: administrative/clerical support (i.e. typing filing, greeting visitors, scheduling appointments/meetings, answering/routing phone calls and providing information); use of office automation equipment to prepare correspondence, reports, input data, etc.; maintaining suspense files; maintaining total and complete discretion and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information, ensuring written material are complete, accurate and contain correct usage of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and structure; using time management techniques to meet deadlines; use of microcomputer programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook); preparation of reports, correspondence, memoranda, and other forms of written communication.

Credit will be given for appropriate qualifying unpaid experience or volunteer work such as community, cultural, social service, and professional association activities on the same basis as paid experience.
