JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) is currently accepting applications under examining authority of 10 U.S.C., Section 2164.  This vacancy may be used for the purpose of filling multiple positions throughout the school year. The Monitor performs simple and repetitive lunchroom and recess monitoring duties. The monitor identifies and reports known or suspected problems, issues, or concerns to the appropriate staff, faculty member, or other official (e.g., military police) in accordance with established policies and procedures. The work may be performed in a cafeteria, a designated lunch site, outdoor or indoor recess areas, or any combination of these or similar areas.

DUTIES:

Assembles students at designated points and monitors dismissal and movement from lunchroom area and recess area. Monitors orderly lunchroom activities. Monitors lunchroom cleanup and assists students to place paper and uneaten food into appropriate disposal receptacles. At the end of the lunch period, assembles students at designated lineup areas for movement back to the classrooms. Responsible for cleaning tables and ensuring lunchroom area is clean. Monitors a designated recess area. Assures safe recess activities by demonstrating safe play practices and use of playground equipment. Enforces safety rules and maintains order and safety to prevent unsafe/dangerous practices. Prevents altercations between students.

Must have 3 months general experience or high school diploma or the equivalent. 
General Experience is defined as knowledge of working with children of all ages in a school, day care or similar setting, to include the ability to effectively communicate with children, the ability to monitor student activity in various school locations and situations and enforce safety rules and maintain order and discipline and/or progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

The normal full-time work week is 35-40 hours and the normal work year is 12 months. Part-time work is prorated in crediting experience. An applicant demonstrating 20 hours per week for a 12-month period would be credited with 6 months of experience.

Part-Time or Unpaid Experience:  Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.  You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.


Must meet OPM minimum qualification standards to be considered for this position.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Your application will initially be reviewed to determine whether you meet the minimum eligibility and qualifications requirements.  If you are qualified, you will then receive a rating based on the degree to which your background matches the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position listed.  If, after reviewing your resume and supporting documentation, a determination is made that you inflated your qualifications and/or experience, your score may be adjusted to more accurately reflect your abilities or you may be found ineligible/not qualified.  Your application will be placed in one of three categories:  Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified.  Within these categories, applicants for Veterans Preference will receive selection priority over non-veterans.
