JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:
This job provides the opportunity to support the mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot; which is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. The Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance and is the world's largest helicopters overhaul and repair facility. CCAD serves as the depot training base for active duty Army, National Guard, Reserve and foreign military personnel. We also provide worldwide on-site maintenance services, aircraft crash analysis, lubricating oil analysis, and chemical, metallurgical and training support. Positions include those providing support to the maintenance of helicopters in a variety of shops or in an office setting.

You will operate air blasting equipment using compressed air to direct grit, seed, and glass bead to remove paint, rust, dirt and carbon from aircraft engines and components. Operate multistage parts cleaning line to remove carbon, rust, paint, and dirt from aircraft equipment. Prepare masking devices to protect bearing journals, oil passages, and machine finished surfaces against grit blast. Use technical manuals and established shop practices, determine type of blasting required based on material to be cleaned. These duties will be performed in the Engine and Component Cleaning Branch.

SCREEN-OUT: Your resume must indicate your ability to do the work of a Sandblaster without more than normal supervision. Resumes will be reviewed for experience and/or training which provided skills and knowledge of: Operating air blasting equipment to remove corrosion from a variety of aircraft engines and components. Operating multistage parts cleaning line to remove carbon, rust, paint, and dirt from aircraft item. Using technical manuals to determine type of blasting required based on material to be cleaned.

Failure to meet the screen out element will result in an ineligible rating.

Your resume must indicate your ability to do the work of a Sandblaster without more than normal supervision. Resumes will be reviewed for experience which provided skills and knowledge of (1) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. (2) Operation of Air Blasting equipment. (3) Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic). (4) Use of Measuring Instruments. (5) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (other than blueprinting reading). (6) Dexterity and Safety.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves standing, stooping, bending and reaching for prolonged periods. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment.


WORKING CONDITIONS: Work inside a well -lighted and well-ventilated shop area. Incumbent is subject to injury during operation of cabinet abrasive blasting and burns from caustic solvents as well as danger from falling parts. Is required to wear protective clothing and gear e.g., aprons, face masks, safety glasses and shoes to include coveralls, respirators and gloves, etc. as working conditions may warrant, e.g., working with parts containing magnesium thorium, etc.

Direct Deposit of Pay is Required.

Temporary Duty (TDY) travel is 10 percent.
