Pathway Internship Program Overview: These positions are being filled under the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions. The program will allow students paid work opportunities at the Dayton VA Medical Center to explore Federal careers while still in school. These are temporary excepted service appointments. In a closely controlled setting, the students will performs work assignments covering basic procedures, detailed steps and routine work in support of general office administration/operations and performs basic office automation. It also provides the students with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion The incumbent may be converted, without a break in service to a term, career or career conditional appointment upon graduation and completion of program requirements.

Receives and directs callers and visitors. Provide information about the organization, its functions, activities and prsonnel, receives and/or gives out forms and assists visitors and/or callers with the completion of forms or documents.  Prepares, composes, or reviews correspondence prepared for the purpose of obtaining or supplying information.  Process incoming or outgoing mail including the processing of express mail.  Perform general mail handling and distribution including sorting, opening, date stamping, classifying, processing and routing mail.  Perform clerical or technical program support work for a variety of technical and/or program specialists in support of the line programs of an agency.  Arranges records for storage.  Performs other duties as assigned:

 

  • Acts as a liaison between Medical Center, patients and staff of the facility and the community it serves regarding My HealtheVet.
  • Assists patients and family members in understanding My HealtheVet Personal Health Record.
  • Gives courteous, accurate and complete response to individuals seeking information pertaining to My HealtheVet registration and In-Person Authentication (IPA).

 

Work Schedule:   1st Shift 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (Intermittent schedule may be provided to accommodate class schedule)

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement Friday, May 24, 2013

Time-in-grade:  Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

Specialized Experience: Experience with software programs, functions and automated systems.  Applying knowledge of software functions to produce a wide range of documents, suc has graphics, tables, memorandums and letters.

Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-03) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. 

OR

Have two (2) full years of education above High school for the GS-04 level.

You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) based on your application for this position.

 

KSA 1 - Do you have a knowledge of standardized rules, procedures or operations requiring training and experience to perform the full range of standard clerical assignments and resolving recurring problems.

KSA 2 - Skilled in typing a variety of correspondence such as letters, memorandums and reports, etc.

KSA 3 - Knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation, spelling and proper format of various correspondence.

KSA 4 - Skills in operating various computer software programs in order to present and complete assignments.

KSA 5 - Knowledge of basic project management concepts.
