This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.s. Coast Guard Academy, Facilities Engineering Division, Public Works Branch, New London, CT.
The purpose of this position is to perform general laborer support to gardeners, carpenters, electricians, maintenance mechanics, etc.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
- Performs preventive maintenance, service work, and minor construction projects for utility systems, equipment, structures, roads, grounds, athletic fields, and piers.
- Performs trash removal, snow removal, grass cutting, unloading trucks, securing tools, carrying materials, equipment and supplies from shop to work site, and cleaning work site upon job completion.
- Cleans, oils and makes minor operational adjustments on power equipment utilized in the work.
- Operates hand and powered lawn mowers, hammers, power drills, power saws, and clears small trees and bushes using hatchets, handsaws, or clippers.
