TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience requirement, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
To qualify for this position at the GS-6 level:
You must have at least (1) one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level, with responsibilities that must be close to the work of this position and has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Cashier (Office Automation) at a developmental level. Typically we would find this experience in work within this field or a field that is closely related to a Bank Teller or Agent Cashier. Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to performing duties such as work performed in a Cashier's office; which may include working as a teller or in a similar position handling cash transaction, financial transactions, processing collections and disbursements, correcting errors, making collection determinations and posting appropriately and resolving minor technical problems. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your Resume and must include job title; duties; month & year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.
To qualify for this position at the GS-7 level: You must have at least (1) one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level, with responsibilities that must be close to the work of this position and has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to independently perform the duties of a Cashier (Office Automation). Typically we would find this experience in work within this field or a field that is closely related to a Bank Teller or Agent Cashier. Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to performing duties such as having overall responsibility for work performed in a Cashier's office; skill in applying handling cash transactions, Revenue program's billing and collection procedures, and performing cash handling operations which include the daily reconciliation of cash advances, etc.; resolving routing complaints, concerns, questions, and problems regarding first party copayment billings; controlling the requisitioning and security of all service receipts; and providing interpretation and guidance of rules and regulations as they apply to the functions of the cashier's office and general accounting. One full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The majority of work is performed in an office setting with adequate light, heat, and ventilation. Work is mostly sedentary; but requires some bending, walking, standing, lifting, and carrying various reports to various areas of the Medical Center. Working at the computer for long periods of time and accessing information from the various computer systems is necessary.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
Applicants will be ranked based on four quality groups, as follows:
- Best qualified - applicants possessing experience that substantially exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position;
- Highly qualified - applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in most of the requirements of the job;
- Well qualified - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in some, but not all, of the requirements of the job; and
- Qualified - applicants possessing experience and/or education that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors.
After the vacancy announcement closes, reviewed applications are evaluated against the questionnaire responses and placed in the appropriate quality group. Qualified veterans will be afforded preference by being placed at the top of the appropriate quality group.
