Duties

The incumbent will be assigned to the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic, Behavioral Medicine Service, Marion VA Medical Center and will be located at the Evansville Health Care Center in Evansville, IN and the surrounding VA locations.

The psychologist will provide an array of direct patient care services to Veterans through the Mental Health Outpatient Clinic. The incumbent will establish and maintain therapeutic relationships and exercise professional judgment to provide treatment for Veterans. Services provided include, but are not limited to, psychological assessment and diagnostic services, assess patient's potential for assaultive or suicidal behavior, assess need for psychiatric hospitalization or treatment for chemical dependence problems; assess patient's competence to handle their own funds or make decisions regarding treatment. The incumbent will provide a range of psychological interventions on an outpatient basis; including counseling, individual insight oriented psychotherapy, behavior therapy, supportive psychotherapy, group therapy, couples therapy. Selectee will provide emergency/crisis interventions to outpatients experiencing psychological crises; helping to stabilize these individuals, assisting in arrangements for transfer to a psychiatric' facility for inpatient care if necessary and providing follow up care as needed. Selectee will participate as a member on multidisciplinary treatment team, attend team treatment planning meetings, provide written responses to consultation requests; provide informal consultation to Mental Health Clinic psychiatric, nursing and social work staff regarding management of patient behavioral problems.

Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.

This position may require early mornings, evenings and/or weekends and holidays.  Participation on the On Call rotation schedule to accommodate patient care needs during weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights is necessary.
