VA New Jersey Health Care System (VANJHCS) is recruiting for Psychologists in the following areas:

Primary Care / Mental Health Integration Psychologist

The incumbent serves as a staff psychologist with special proficiency in the interface between physical health and psychological illness. The incumbent will exercise mastery of the theories, principles, concepts and methodologies of Clinical Psychology that is customarily acquired through education and training that meets the requirements for a doctoral degree (e.g. PhD) plus two years of post -doctoral experience. The incumbent is required to exercise judgment in the selection of and/or adaptation of standard and accepted psychological theories, techniques and practices in treating patients or in developing new techniques and programs for the treatment of specialized problems or clinical populations with special proficiency in the interface between medical disease and psychological issues

Staff Psychologist

The incumbent serves as a staff psychologist for half time in the mental health clinic and for half time on the acute psychiatry ward.  The incumbent will exercise mastery of the theories, principles, concepts, and methodologies of Clinical Psychology that is customarily acquired through education and training that meets the requirements for a doctoral degree (e.g. Ph.D.) plus experience.  The incumbent is required to exercise judgment in the selection of and/or adaptation of standard and accepted psychological theories, techniques, and practices in treating patients or in developing new techniques and programs for the treatment of specialized problems or clinical populations for both the inpatient acute psychiatry ward and the outpatient mental health clinic on the East Orange campus.

Compensation and Pension (C&P) Psychologist

The Compensation and Pension (C&P) Psychologist functions as the full-time mental health examiner for compensation and pension examinations.  As such, the incumbent will perform all the duties necessary for high quality, timely completion of the mental health examinations assigned for initial, review, or increase C&P evaluations.  It is expected that up to six examinations (i.e. face-to-face appointments with the patient) will be completed in a day, with the psychologist expected to review the Claims file, medical record, and associated background materials, perform the examination of the patient as requested by Newark Regional Office of Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), and complete documentation of the examination by dictation or by typing within 24 hours.  The incumbent will provide opinions regarding the veteran's mental health as requested by the Newark Regional Office of VBA.  Incumbent will perform specialty examinations (e.g. board of two psychologists) as required.  Information from the Newark Regional Office of VBA on the quality and timeliness of the examinations will be considered in the incumbent's annual performance evaluation.  Although the position is based on the East Orange campus, the incumbent may be required to perform C&P Examinations at any of the facilities within VANJHCS, as requested as well as make home visits to conduct C&P examinations.  If available and clinically appropriate, the C&P psychologist may carry out examinations using distance technology (e.g. telehealth).  The C&P psychologist is expected to be clinically privileged and able to perform any of the duties included under the general privileges of an independently functioning psychologist at this facility.
