Under the lead of a full performance specialist, performs highly structured, entry-level work designed to develop broader and more in-depth knowledge and skills needed to perform higher-level assignments. Typical assignments include analyzing and defining network requirements; defining and maintaining network architecture and infrastructure; configuring and optimizing network servers, hubs, routers, and switches; analyzing network workload; monitoring network capacity and performance; diagnosing and resolving network problems; developing network backup and recovery procedures; installing, testing, maintaining, and upgrading network operating systems software; and/or ensuring the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of network services. Communicates factual and procedural information clearly, orally and in writing. Gathers and analyzes basic facts and draws conclusions. Uses established industry practices, procedures or policies to determine the most appropriate approach to problem resolution.

Work experience, education, and/or specialized training sufficient to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of Information Technology (IT) principles, concepts and methods as well as skill in applying basic IT principles and practices in:
- IT systems development life cycle management,
- Network performance monitoring,
- Analytical methods,
- Oral and written communication techniques,
- Capabilities and applications of network equipment including hubs, routers, switches, bridges, servers, transmission media, and related hardware.
- Network standards, protocols, and procedures.


Conditions of employment:

1. A one-year probationary period may be required upon selection.
