The Loma Linda VA Healthcare System is actively seeking a board certified/board eligible gastroenterologist/hepatologist. If hired the applicant will join a team providing compassionate healthcare to our veterans with a wide range of liver diseases. We are recruiting to add another hepatologist to our expanding hepatology team.  The applicant will be caring for inpatients and outpatients with liver disease and needs to be familiar with the management of patients pre and post liver transplantation. The applicant will be actively involved in teaching activities of medical students, residents and fellows. You will also be expected to work developing a faculty practice base with the other hepatologists and serve as both clinic and service attending. There are multiple research opportunities as well.

 

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen (Noncitizens may be appointed when it not possible to recruit qualified citizens). Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting in a course of education in medicine. Current, full unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Must be proficient in spoken and written Engligh. The applicant must possess excellent clinical and endoscopic skills. The applicant must have a strong background in hepatology and understanding of acute and chronic liver disease processes.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

CITIZENSHIP:  Citizen of the United States.

EDUCATION: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.  The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.  Approved schools are: (1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges or the year in which the degree was granted; (2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted; (3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the district of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure; (4) for residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required.

LICENSURE AND REGISTRATION:  Physicians (Except Residents).  Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or commonwealth of the United States, or in the district of Columbia.  The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.  The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country.

Residents:  Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia before the second year of VA residency, or meet any licensure, registration or other equivalent requirements established for residents of non-VA hospitals with which the VA facility is affiliated for training purposes.  The resident must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (45 lbs and over); Moderate Carrying (15-44 lbs); Straight Pulling, Pushing, Reaching above shoulder; Walking (up to 3 hours); Standing (up to 3 hours); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; Both eyes required; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing aid (permitted)]
