This position is located in the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Division of Safety Research (DSR), Office of the Director (OD) in Morgantown, WV.

The incumbent performs routine administrative and miscellaneous clerical work.  The incumbent resolves problems associated with the administrative and clerical work of the office.  Maintains the supervisor's appointment calendar, using manual or automated processes, schedules appointments independently, reminds the supervisor of meetings and makes administrative arrangements as required.  Attends meetings with the supervisor, notes commitments made and ensures that staff implements such commitments.  Determines subordinate staff attendance at conferences when staff acts as representative on behalf of the supervisor.  Directs visitors and phone call from academic and or research institutions to appropriate staff members. Processes incoming material, which may include e-mail.  Searches, files and assembles background information on various incoming subject matter material prior to referral.  Files correspondence, reports, records regulations and directives in accordance with record retention procedures.  Locates filed material by subject matter and performs periodic inventory of files and disposes of any out dated material.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-7 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

 

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include, experience performing secretarial and administrative activities, such as maintaining supervisor's calendar, scheduling meetings, reviewing and/or managing office correspondence. 

 

Proficiency Requirements:  This position requires proficiency in typing, i.e., at least 40 words per minute.  You will be asked to self-certify your typing proficiency in your on-line application.

 

As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.  Your graduate level education must be related to the job being filled and must have provided you with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the work to be considered for substitution for specialized experience.  Submit a copy of your college transcript if you are requesting CDC to consider your graduate level education in determining your qualifications for this position.  If selected, you will be required to submit an original official transcript before being appointed.

1.
