in order to qualify for this position, you must possess at least one of the following criteria:
Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service. Specialized experience is experience in processing, assembling, trouble-shooting, preparing, sterilizing, storing, and issuing sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment. You must possess knowledge of the technical names, general uses, physical characteristics, and operating conditions of medical supply items; knowledge of decontamination, cleaning, preparation, sterilization, and storage procedures; knowledge of aseptic techniques; and skill in operation gas a washer-sterilizer, ultrasonic instrument cleaner, and gas and steam cleaner. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include work as an operating room technician, medical instrument technician, nursing assistant, corpsman, or laboratory worker.
Possess two full years (36 semester hours) of graduate education, or a Masters degree. Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required ONLY in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position (Medical Supply Technician). You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: (Narrative responses are not required).
- Knowledge of decontamination, surgical instruments, sterilization and case carts processes.
- Ability to recognize employee skills.
- Ability to communicate with the department.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Employee usually is standing or walking during assigned tour of duty. There is some bending, reaching, stooping occasionally and kneeling when cleaning low surfaces. There are frequent requirements for lifting supplies and baskets weighing up to 40 pounds. Dexterity and strength are required in lifting and positioning baskets and placing them on carts for delivery. Regularly push carts (sterilizer and modules) weighing several hundred pounds. Aligns carts on tracks in sterilizer in sometimes crowded quarters.

Applicants will be ranked based on four quality groups, as follows:
- Best qualified - applicants possessing experience that substantially exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position;
- Highly qualified - applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in most of the requirements of the job;
- Well qualified - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in some, but not all, of the requirements of the job; and
- Qualified - applicants possessing experience and/or education that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors.
After the vacancy announcement closes, reviewed applications are evaluated against the questionnaire responses and placed in the appropriate quality group. Qualified veterans will be afforded preference by being placed at the top of the appropriate quality group. Qualifying veterans with a service-connected disability of 10% or more will be placed at the top of the best qualified group.
