NOTE:  The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13.  The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of a GS-11 to GS-13.  The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidate's education and experience, and recommend the grade and step at which the candidate will be placed.  The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.

Salary Ranges:

  • GS-11:  $57,408 - $74,628
  • GS-12:  $68,809 - $89,450
  • GS-13:  $81,823 - $106,369

Work Schedule:  7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday

Position Title, series & grade: Psychologist GS-0180-11/12/13

Promotion Potential:  If position has promotion potential, the selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.  Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.


This position serves as a member of the medical center's multidisciplinary Center for Traumatic Stress (CTS).  The position includes work with veterans returning from OEF/PIF regardless of diagnosis, combat veterans with PTSD, and males and females who have experienced military sexual trauma.  Clinical training is an integral part of this position.  The psychologist provides supervision for pre-doctoral interns and may also provide supervision for postdoctoral fellows and summer practicum students.  This position is also expected to carry out an ongoing program of clinical research.

  • Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment and uses the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care.
  • Performs evaluations for wide array of patients representing diverse diagnostic entities.
  • Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions.
  • Consults with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.
  • May be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities.

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).
  • Successfull completion of a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA.


  • GS-11: None beyond the basic requirements.
  • GS-12: At least one (1) additional year of experience as a psychologist equivalent to the GS-11 level. 
  • GS-13: At least one (1) additional year of experience as a psychologist equivalent to the GS-12 level AND must hold a current, full, active and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.

You will be rated in the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAO's) based on your application for this position:

KSA1 - Knowledge of, and ability to apply, advanced professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient populations.

KSA2 - Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.

KSA3 - Knowledge of clinical research literature.
