The Radiology Service of the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) is seeking an Advanced Medical Support Assistant to work in Palo Alto, CA.  The incumbent will function as the Exam Protocoling, Prioritizing, and Patient Scheduling Coordinator and actively participates in the management of the scheduling area of Radiology Service.  Under the supervisor's guidance, the incumbent resolves problems associated with the administrative and clerical work of the scheduling office.  Exam protocoling and appointment scheduling are the primary functions of this position.  With this basic structure, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: serves as the initial and primary person to determine the urgency and nature of the imaging exam(s) being requested; the manner with which exam(s) is/are obtained; scheduling patients for CT, MRI, US, and general radiology procedures; prioritizing examinations to be scheduled using written guidelines; expediting requests for emergent studies; alerting health care providers of possible problems and complications; maintaining records of all patient and physician contacts; and providing patient education, including describing complex procedures, giving instructions on how to prepare for a radiographic examination, explaining risks and side effects, and answering questions regarding various radiographic procedures.
