NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the California National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

THIS IS A PERMANENT POSITION

This job is located at a National Guard maintenance facility, warehouse, training site, supply or support type facility. The position serves as the hazardous material/hazardous waste specialist with a full range of examining and identifying duties for materials and equipment which are toxic, radioactive, hazardous, or explosive.

General: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to distinguish between closely related or similar items, ability to follow procedures, ability to sort materials by type, and skill in the use of hand tools.

Materials Examiner and Identifier WG-6912-07: Must have 12 months of specialized experience or training identifying and sorting a variety of complex materials and equipment; experience receiving materials and equipment, recording, and placing items in proper storage areas; experience preparing all items for shipment using appropriate agency instructions; experience in mathematical equations; experience interpreting and using Federal Supply Catalogs, military and manufacturing catalogs, and technical and agency manuals; experience using and operating forklifts and motor vehicles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The following knowledge's, skills, and abilities will be used by the selecting officials to determine the best qualified applicants from which selection will be made:

1. Skill in identifying, sorting, and judging the physical condition of a variety of complex materials.

2. Knowledge of procedures for receiving material and placing them in storage.

3. Ability to use arithmetic, add – subtract, multiply, divide, etc.

4. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical catalogs and manuals.

5. Ability to operate forklifts and vehicles.

6. Skill in preparing material for shipment, using tags, labels and appropriate containers.


*CREDITING EXPERIENCE:  NATIONAL GUARD SERVICE MAY BE CREDITED AS FULL-TIME EXPERIENCE WHEN EVALUATED AGAINST THE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR A MILITARY TECHNICIAN POSITION.  EXPERIENCE MUST BE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE POSITION AND MUST BE DESCRIBED IN THE WORK EXPERIENCE SECTION OF THE APPLICATION AND/OR résumé. THE LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE IS DETERMINED BY THE ACTUAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES PERFORMED.  BE DESCRIPTIVE, A SIMPLE LIST OF JOB TITLES AND DATES WILL NOT SUFFICE. 

 

Conditions of Employment:

Must maintain appropriate level of security clearance.

Must wear appropriate military uniform including required grooming standards.
