The NIH has an entry-level administrative support Human Resources Assistant position available.  As a Human Resources Assistant, you will work with one of our Client Services division branches to process and ensure the accuracy of official personnel actions for a wide variety of federal positions.  In addition, you will provide support to Human Resources Specialists in completing recruitment and placement activities.

As a Human Resources Assistant for CSD, your work assignments may include:

  • Coding and processing personnel actions;
  • Participating in the on-boarding of new employees;
  • Providing a variety of general information regarding recruitment programs and human resources processes and procedures;
  • Using automated human resources systems to perform technical and administrative support functions;
  • Assisting Human Resource Specialists with various staffing and recruitment duties.

Typing proficiency of 40 words per minute is required for all grade levels.  In addition:

For the GS-5, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal Government, obtained in either the public or private sector.  Examples of qualifying experience include:  applying standardized rules, procedures and operations to provide administrative support, utilizing automated systems to enter, retrieve and manage data; reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness and reconciling errors.

OR

Completion of four full years of education above the high school level.

OR

A combination of post-high school education and specialized experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.  Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e. beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.  One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to six months of specialized experience.

For the GS-6, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal Government, obtained in either the public or private sector.  Examples of qualifying experience include:  using knowledge of standardized human resources regulations, rules and guidelines to answer routine inquiries; using human resources automated systems to process routine personnel actions for recruitment, staffing, benefits, or compensation.

For the GS-7, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level in the Federal Government, obtained in either the public or private sector.  Examples of qualifying experience include:  using Office of Personnel Management regulations and guidelines to determine the correct legal and regulatory codes for personnel actions; using human resources systems to process actions; explaining basic federal employment policies and procedures to applicants and employees; assisting senior HR Specialists with recruitment tasks.
