These positions are located in the Veteran Canteen Service. Please see the duties below for more information.

As a Food Service Worker, you will be responsible to operate a dish machine, remove and transport soiled trays, pans and utensils from dining area, serving area and kitchen to dish room, stacks and stores trays and utensils, responsible to clean all tables and seats as necessary.

Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Operates food cash register within standards and security guidelines.
  • Assures that proper selling prices are charged to each customer.
  • Verifies cash and coupon withdrawals and counts cash drawer at beginning and end of shift each day.
  • Operates retail cash register as needed.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate and clean all kitchen equipment, responsible to maintain work area in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Assists in storing of food items, assuring that they are dated and properly identified.

Work Schedule: Rotating 1st and 2nd Shifts with Weekends, 6:30am - 3:30pm, and 11:00am - 7:30pm.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Your background must demonstrate experience in a variety of food service duties, such as knowledge of kitchen equipment, food handling, and sanitation procedures.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position requires performance of work which involves frequent lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 50 pounds, constant standing and walking.

WORKING CONDITIONS : Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilations.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C ( www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c ).

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is Ability to do the job of a food service worker without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements:

1 - Work Practices.

2 - Ability to interpret instructions.

3 - Ability to use and maintain kitchen equipment.
