This is a research position engaged in professional scientific and engineering work which is systematic, critical, intensive investigation directed toward discovering, disseminating, and applying new or expanded knowledge in the materials discipline. Conducts empirical and theoretical investigations in nanocomposite design, processing and fabrication research studies that resolve critical problems that have previously prevented the advancement of net shape fabrication of multifunctional components using emerging nanomaterial systems. Plans, directs and coordinates research intended to ultimately advance existing nanocomposite fabrication technology.
The incumbent will originate and establish innovative methods to use emerging materials systems such as nanotubes and nanosheets in the design and fabrication of multifunctional aerospace structures. Scope of the work will include materials design, materials processing, materials characterization, fabrication technology, performance evaluation and integration of advanced structural components in aerospace systems. Develops original concepts in advanced technologies or equipment, new experimental techniques, special diagnostic equipment and novel processing and analytical procedures. Identifies alternative approaches or optimizes systems to develop the most cost effective technical solutions.
Serve as an expert in net shape fabrication of multifunctional structures for aerospace applications produced from nanomaterials.
