NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the California National Guard. THIS IS AN INDEFINITE POSITION 

This position is located within a National Guard aircraft maintenance organization. Its primary purpose is to inspect, repair, modify, and service aircraft systems, components, and assemblies, both on- and off-aircraft.

GENERAL: Experience, education, or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-10: Must have 18 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The following knowledge's, skills, and abilities will be used by the selecting officials to determine the best qualified applicants from which selection will be made:

1. Ability to do diversified work with tools and equipment, requiring extreme caution in maintaining close dimensions.

2. Knowledge of aircraft components and maintenance procedures.

3. Ability to diagnose trouble and determine remedy were overall knowledge of all systems of aircraft is required.

4. Ability to inspect aircraft, determine mechanical deficiencies and analyze results.

5. Ability to interpret instructional material, schematics, and specifications for complex mechanical problems on assigned aircraft.

6. Skill in the use of common hand tools.


*CREDITING EXPERIENCE:  NATIONAL GUARD SERVICE MAY BE CREDITED AS FULL-TIME EXPERIENCE WHEN EVALUATED AGAINST THE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR A MILITARY TECHNICIAN POSITION.  EXPERIENCE MUST BE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE POSITION AND MUST BE DESCRIBED IN THE WORK EXPERIENCE SECTION OF THE APPLICATION AND/OR résumé. Conditions of Employment:

6. Troubleshoots and performs unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft, utilizing various gauges, meters, measuring devices and other related test equipment.

7. Performs user and organizational level maintenance on assigned support equipment, including inspection, repair, modification, and corrosion prevention.

8. Provides data for aircraft maintenance historical records, complete maintenance data collection, man-hour accounting, and other forms as required.

9. Comprehensive and proficient in using precision test equipment, technical data, schematics, wiring diagrams, mathematical formulas, common hand tools, jigs, templates and various gauges.
