The incumbent will work as a member of the Primary Care Service at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center.  The incumbent serves as a Mid-Level (NP/PA) provider in Urgent Care; the following is a list of primary responsibilities:

 

  • treats a wide range of problems, performing thorough histories and physical examinations
  • writes orders for diagnostic testing, prescribed medications, and consultation to specialty services utilizing the patient's electronic medical record
  • practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and with a commitment to service excellence
  • possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work
  • ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program
  • ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team

 

 

Duty Location: Muskogee, OK; Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center Emergency Department

Tour of Duty: M-F, 2:00pm - 10:30pm.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:   (Nurse Practitioners)

  • U.S. citizenship.  Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Active, full, current and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Professional Nurse in a state, Territory, or Commonwealth of the U.S. or District of Columbia.
  • Englist language proficiency.  Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:  The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).  In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.  The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing.  Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.  

 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: (Physician Assistants)

 

  • U.S. citizenship.  Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA) is a requirement, as of March 12, 1993.
  • English language proficiency.  Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). 
  • A bachelor's degree from a PA training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); or Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a bachelor's degree in a health care occupation or a health-related science; or Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a period of progressively responsible health care experience such as an independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practice nurse, registered nurse, medical technologist, or medical technician.  The duration of approved academic training health care experience must total at least 5 years.

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (45 lbs and over); Heavy carrying (45 lbs and over): Straight pulling and pushing; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking and standing up to 8 hours; repeated bending; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; hearing aid permitted.
