In accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3307, a maximum entry age of 36 has been established for initial appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution. If you are above the maximum entry age and have prior federal law enforcement coverage, you MUST submit an SF-50 to verify prior coverage.
Qualified Preference Eligible Veterans may be exempt from meeting the maximum age of 37. Please refer to the Required Documents Section for the appropriate documentation to submit to validate veteran eligibility.
Incumbent serves as the system administrator for the Data General computer, terminals, and the SAP software. He/she maintains their security, controls access, and trains staff in their use.
Incumbent serves as the on-site technical expert on UNICOR systems. Incumbent provides training and support in basic and advanced uses of a wide variety of computer equipment to include workstations, printers, digitizing equipment, and all associated accessory equipment. Emphasis is placed on proficiency and expertise with Windows NT, SAP, Microsoft Office, and Word Perfect Office suites of software. In conjunction with local training officer, develops annual and special training programs for institution staff.
Incumbent serves as the UNICOR Assistant Information Security Officer, whose responsibilities include: (a) the institution-wide computer security program for all Windows NT Networks, SAP user rights, stand-alone personal computers and any other computer-based systems; and (b) the requirements of the Program Statement(s) and/or Institution Supplements regarding BOP’s Computer System Security.
Incumbent performs in specialized areas such as network design, network infrastructure implementation and management, distributed processing, security, on-line remote data capture and inquiry, intra and intergovernmental transfer structure, file maintenance, telecommunications systems, financial/manufacturing software administration and server and desktop operating systems life-cycle management.
Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
