This announcement may be used to fill multiple positions in multiple locations.


The incumbent of this position will primarily be responsible for writing and editing content for printed publications and the web on public health topics and agency initiatives.  Specifically, the incumbent will: 


Performs writing and edits assignments, including articles and blogs and assists in designing and creating multimedia web pages using the agency’s automated web content management system. 


Exercises independent judgment and initiative in creating materials on a broad range of topics, including those of a controversial and/or sensitive nature.


Writes and edits content for printed publications and the web on public health topics and agency initiatives.  


Gathers information from various sources and subject matter experts to write news and feature style copy on tight and recurring deadlines with minimal edits.


Collaborates with visual information specialists to create suitable content assets such as photographs and multimedia; ensures adherence to style guides across all print and online communications, including materials for highly visible public health initiatives.


Coordinates the disseminating of quickly produced materials, in conjunction with major agency announcements, including situations in which public health may be at risk.


Assists with activities aimed at increasing the reach of content


Researches, conducts interviews, organizes, writes, revises, and clears written materials under deadline pressure, which may require working outside of normal business hours.


Translates complex information into narratives easily understandable to the general public (which is assumed to have no more than a high school education).


Collaborates with colleagues regarding formats and editorial presentation of graphic materials.
