The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for the Pharmacy Service.  Incumbent is a rotating, generalized pharmacy technician, who, under the authority of the Chief, Pharmacy Service, is directly involved in all aspects of the preparation and dispensing of drug orders and prescription items.

Duties: 

·         Processes initial hand written copies or electronically entered medication orders initiated by providers selecting appropriate dose form and quantity of doses to be checked by a pharmacist.

·          Fills unit dose medication carts daily utilizing VISTA pick lists, Safety Pak filled doses and hand picked doses.

·         Prepares the daily IV batches for checking by the pharmacist following written and verbal instructions for compounding with aseptic technique for routine products and hazardous materials.

·         Operates and maintains complicated pharmacy equipment such as Script Pro, Safety Pak, IV pumps, Omnicell, universal packaging machine, barcode label and paper printers.

·         Reconstitutes oral suspensions/liquids.

·         Maintains stock levels by periodic inventories, submission of requests for needed items receiving, storing, and/or transporting incoming orders, removing outdated or deteriorated items and preparing them for proper disposal.

·         Utilizes knowledge of policies and procedures inventory management in specialty areas.

·         Performs automatic replenishment of ward/clinic areas assuring appropriate inventory items and levels are maintained.

·         Solves problems and makes recommendations.

·         Trains and orients new students and technicians to the policies and procedures of Pharmacy Service and Inpatient Pharmacy.

·         Performs monthly ward inspections as assigned and within the appropriate time frame.

·         Assists in total quality improvement activities.

·         Performs all the duties of lower graded technicians as required.

·         Maintains statistical records either manually or computerized.

Must have one year experience at the next lower level and must have a certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), to qualify at the GS-6 level.
