This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA), Office of the District Food and Drug Director located in Lenexa, KS.

Duties

Incumbent performs scientific analyses and tests on foods, drugs, and raw materials to detect contamination resulting from insanitary plant practices, pollution, food decomposition, etc.  Performs routine calculations such as determining concentration or the amount of a substance in total sample based on an analysis of a known portion of the sample.  Prepares laboratory reports identifying the sample and showing the method used and results obtained. Participates in firm inspections with an experienced investigator and/or regulatory scientist in a training capacity to assist, observe and evaluate manufacturing processes, practices and conditions. Prepares scientific reports identifying samples and stating methods and procedures used, any modifications of the method including validation data, and resultsIn addition to the above duties, at the higher grade level, the incumbent provides training on the precedents, analytical methods and instrumentation and acts as a technical advisor to agency personnel on field inspections/investigations.

 

This position is located in an all chemistry laboratory, hence incumbent experience with analytical chemistry techniques is expected.
