Selected Reserve Incentive Program (SRIP):  Acceptance of a Federal Excepted Technician position of over 179 days in length will cause termination from the Selected Reserve Incentive Program (SRIP).

Type of Appointment: This is a full-time, Excepted Indefinite, dual-status position which requires Georgia Army National Guard Membership. Position is indefinite; however, may convert to permanent without further competition. If a tenured applicant is selected, tenure will not change.

Job Summary:  This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters—State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility.  The primary purpose of this position is to determine, identify, and select for issue, items described by users in terms of their intended usage; recommending possible substitutes and interchangeable items; determining work sequences, methods, procedures, and techniques for setting up and shifting storage locations; and determining when tools and equipment should be routed to appropriate shops for test, repair, or calibration.   

Background Check:  Selectee may, at the option of the agency, be required to submit to criminal, credit history, and general background checks which will be evaluated by the agency prior to a final offer of employment and access into the Georgia National Guard Federal Technician or Active Guard/Reserve program.

National Guard Membership:  This position requires military membership. It is designated for Georgia Army National Guard Enlisted incumbent(s) only. In accordance with ARNG regulations, incumbent performs duties necessary to accomplish military Tools and Parts Attendant functions in support of programs essential to state Army National Guard daily operations, training and readiness missions.

As a member of a Georgia Army National Guard unit, you will be required to train with your unit, normally one weekend a month and 15 days of annual training each year. Georgia Army National Guard units and members are subject to immediate call to federal or state active duty to meet national or state emergencies.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Under 5 USC 2108 & 5 CFR 211, Veteran's Preference criteria does not apply.
  • Direct Deposit Banking is Mandatory.

The following list of duties is not conclusive but provides a brief snapshot of the duties that may be required of this position:

  • Identifies user’s tools, parts, equipment, and requirements and requisitions stock as needed. 
  • Prepares periodic inventory and determines the basis for over, short, or misplaced items by checking such references as out-for-repair, issue, and turn-in records maintained in the tools and parts room. 
  • Ensures that tools and equipment are maintained in good condition by performing visual and operating checks, taking measurements with such devices as calipers, and receiving reports from users on the nature and extent of damage to tools and equipment. 
  • Determines stock replenishment levels for centrally controlled supplies and other material within funding limitations. 
  • Receives a wide variety of supplies and specialized items requiring special handling. 
  • Searches for identifying or management data on items of supply. 
  • Edits supply transactions, or provides customer service for urgent critical shortage items and other items requiring special handling when established procedures are not applicable. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    General Experience:  Must have experience which demonstrates your knowledge of trade and shop items; ability to apply identification skill (matching specific item name, models, and stock or part numbers with similar specific information at stock locations); ability to use simple hand tools (pliers, screwdrivers, etc.) and to follow oral and written instructions.

    Specialized Experience:  Must have a minimum of 18 months specialized experience in verifying stock by opening, counting, and visually checking the contents of the containers. I have experience setting up and shifting storage locations in consideration of space available, turnover, and convenience of handling items. I have experience in completing stock records by showing the names, quantities, and location of stock.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):  Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be further evaluated by the Selecting Official based on the following KSAs considered essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.

    • Knowledge of the range of items in stock to identify specific items requested by users from descriptions of their intended usage, and to suggest, in the absence of requested items, substitute and interchangeable items that might fit user’s requirements. 
    • Skill in determining when tools and equipment should be sent to test, repair, and calibration shops, and skill in providing evaluations to stock disposal personnel to aid them in determining whether items should be salvaged, repaired, and returned to stock. 
    • Skill in determining from records such errors as improper item issue and turn-in credit, and the failure of records to show that items have been sent out for repair. 
    • Skill in identifying, setting up special storage locations, and ensuring that project assigned items are separated from regularly stocked items when they arrive and during their storage. 
    • Ability to provide information on the status of stock for determining and keeping adequate numbers and types of items on hand. 
    • Knowledge of automated systems for stock record accountability. 


    Other Requirements: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, applicants must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. 
    For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

    National Guard Compatibility:  Once an applicant is selected and prior to being placed in the technician position, the selectee must be assigned to a compatible unit in the Georgia Army National Guard as an  Enlisted member in ECMF 91 or MOS: 92A/F/Y/Z. Rank inversion is strictly prohibited.

    Wear of the Army uniform as prescribed by AR/NGB/GA NGR is required for incumbent of this position.  Acceptance of this position constitutes concurrence with this requirement as a condition of employment.

    Preplacement Medical Requirements:  Selectee will be required to undergo medical testing, at the government's expense, prior to beginning employment.  Medical tests are used to determine fitness and eligibility for employment.

    Standard Form 78 (Certificate of Medical Examination) will be used to determine the fitness and eligibility for employment.  Upon review of results, the Human Resources Officer will approve selection, require additional medical information or find selectee medically disqualified for employment and withdraw said offer.
