The Institute for Telecommunications Sciences  is a national leader in radio science and telecommunications systems. The Department of Commerce is seeking bright, innovative, results-oriented individuals to join our Pathways-Internship Program (IP). The Pathways Internship Program (IP) targets students accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program (diploma, certificate, etc,) in a accredited/qualifying educational institution, on a full time basis. (Applicant who do not meet the definitional of "student", will not be considered.) Internship can be seasonal (spring, summer, fall) or year round. At the successful conclusion of this program, you may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a Federal career-conditional position. Interns may work full-time or part-time schedules. The Pathways Internship Program (IP) replaces STEP/SCEP.

Any required investigations and clearances must be completed before the selectee can be placed in the position.

Cumulative GPA of 2.9 must maintain at least a 2.9 GPA throughout the entire internship appointment.

The incumbet will be able to:

- Apply engineering methods & techniques on advance communication systems.

- Independently conducts measurements on communication systems & conducts a variety of tasks in the field of electronics.

- Apply established methods, tests, procedures, and techniques, and recording actions and results.

Pathways candidates must meet the qualification requirements consistent with the Department of Commerce and the OPM qualification standards: applicable to the position being filled. The classification of the Intern position will depend upon the field of study and level of coursework the candidate has completed.

- Candidate must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree-seeking student.

- Cumulative GPA of 2.9 must maintain at least a 2.9 GPA throughout the entire Internship appointment.

- 18 years or older at the time of appointment

- Degree does not have to be related to the position/series; however to be eligible, candidate must meet the OPM qualification standards for the position to which the Intern may be converted.

Candidates will be assessed based on basic eligibility requirements (either Agency developed standards or the OPM Qualification Standards for the position being filled). Veterans' preference applies to selection for positions in the Pathways Programs. Employees hired under the Pathways Programs on appointments for 90 days or more are eligible to earn annual and sick leave. Health and life insurance coverage for Federal employees depends on the type of appointment. Students hired under the Internship Program with a Not-To-exceed (NTE) date will not receive health and life insurance coverage. As a federal employee, you are eligible to receive a transit subsidy each month to compensate you for your travel to and from work via certain types of public transportation.

To be eligible for conversion to the competitive service after completion of the program, and Intern must:

- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Successfully complete an academic course of study as evidenced by a qualfying degree
- Complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience under the Internship Program
- Meet the OPM qualification standards for the position to which the Intern may be converted
- Maintain acceptable performance under the Agency's approved performance management system
- Receive favorable recommendation for conversion from supervisor
 It ls important to remember that eligibllty for conversion does not guarantee
that the agency will decide to opt for conversion.
