JOB SUMMARY:

The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratory that produces technological solutions to America's energy challenges.  For more than 100 years, the laboratory has focused on developing tools and processes to provide clean, reliable, and affordable energy to the American people.

The incumbent will serve as a Project Manager in the Power & Vehicles Technologies Division (PVTD), Project Management Center.  The PVTD  implements and manages projects primarily in support of the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Office of Vehicle Technologies Program and other EERE Programs and activities.  The incumbent of this position serves as a Project Manager and provides technical and managerial expertise in support of a variety of research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) projects that address advanced technologies, techniques, and systems in support of vehicle technologies.  Specific vehicle technology areas include electric and hybrid electric vehicle drive train and support systems (electric motors, controls, power electronics, electrochemistry, and energy storage systems).

As a General Engineer in the Project Management Center, you will:

  • Independently identify research needs;
  • structure research funding opportunity announcements;
  • evaluate proposals;
  • negotiate new agreements and execute projects.  More specifically: 
  • define project objectives and requirements;
  • plan and prepare project documentation;
  • arrange for appropriate funding;
  • monitor research progress against defined scope, schedule, and cost;
  • stay abreast of potential project risk events and mitigation strategies;
  • analyze and evaluate project progress and results; and
  • ensure project formal deliverables are of high quality.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal service.  

Specialized Experience is described as:  Project management experience related to the research, development, and demonstration of electric and hybrid electric drive train and support system technologies (electric motors, controls, power electronics, electrochemistry, and energy storage systems).

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Rather, you must describe in your resume how your past work experience demonstrates that you possess the KSAs identified below.  

 

1.   Knowledge of the engineering or scientific purpose, concepts, principles, and practices relating to electric and hybrid electric vehicle drive train and support systems related RD&D.

 

2.  Knowledge of project management principles and practices relating to electric and hybrid electric vehicle drive train and support systems technologies.

 

3.  Skill in verbal communications presenting information/reports to diverse audiences.  

 

4.  Skill in written communications, including preparing and authoring reports/documentation for diverse audiences.
