This is a Term position. Initial appointment is 13 months with possible extensions up to 4 years. This position is also career-seasonal in nature and does not provide employment on a year-round basis. You may work a minimum of 26 weeks but generally not more than 48 weeks a year. Actual work schedule and period of furlough is contingent upon funding and operational needs.

Prepares a wide variety of correspondence and documents, including finalizing draft correspondence, reports, permits, DI-1's, travel documents and other related documents. Prepares travel itineraries, makes reservations, prepares travel vouchers as needed from provided information, and maintains contact with travelers to assure timely submission of travel documents. Makes copies of documents and sends facsimile copies as necessary to assist staff members with projects, deadlines and routine matters. Maintains office records and files. Orders and secures expendable supplies, ensures office equipment is maintained and serviced. Gathers information for and submits monthly mileage report(s). Ensures GSA vehicles are submitted for timely maintenance.

Serves as phone, fax and personal receptionist, provides information of a nontechnical nature. Establishes and maintains multiple computer databases with the goal of maximizing database information, establishes detailed cross-reference databases for retrieval of information. Prepares computer-generated reports as needed. Serves as the payroll coordinator for the organization and responsible for payroll preparation and payroll record keeping including leave. Assists staff in resolving payroll questions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is largely sedentary office work; however some lifting of files, equipment, or supplies will occur on occasion. Some travel will occur within the park via government motor vehicle in the performance of duties.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The incumbent will work in an office setting.

AREA / HOUSING INFORMATION: This position is stationed at the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park located in Northwest Arizona, approximately 60 miles north of Williams and 85 miles Northwest of Flagstaff at an elevation of 7,000 feet.   Temperatures range from approximately 85 degrees in the summer to 17 degrees in the winter.   Grand Canyon Village has schools K-12, a daycare center, post office, general store, banking facilities, churches, a recreation center, a clinic with resident physicians and several restaurants.   The park community consists of some 2,000 people, including employees of the NPS and concessionaires and their family members.   There are often employment opportunities for family members in the park and surrounding areas. The park community is small enough that many employees choose to walk or bike from their homes to work.   Complete shopping, educational, medical and professional services are available in Williams and Flagstaff.   Recreational opportunities include hiking, river rafting, fishing, cross-country and downhill skiing, and golfing in nearby communities.

Permanent employees obtain housing either through a bid system or by assignment into shared furnished quarters.    Because of limited housing, when an employees is assigned shared quarters, the park is not able to provide accommodations for family member and pets.    For additional housing information contact the park Housing Office at 928-638-7796.
