JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:

The Richard B. Russell Project Office/Dam is located at the Georgia/South Carolina line just off of Hwy 72. It is a large multipurpose project located on the Savannah River in a rural location approximately 18 miles SE of Elberton, GA. Located in NE Georgia, Elberton is approximately 95 miles from Atlanta, GA, and 115 miles from Columbia, SC. Elberton is a prosperous, growing community boasting a solid economy and the area's granite monument production accounts for one-third of total production nationwide. The University of Georgia located in Athens, GA is approx. 50 miles from the project. Clemson University located in Clemson, SC is approx. 60 miles from the project. Elberton and Elbert County comprises a population of about 20,000 people. Housing/rental prices are moderate, usually with good availability.

Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army  Recent Graduates Program. 

 

The Department of the Army Recent Graduates Program affords developmental experiences in the Department of Army intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs. Successful applicants are placed in a dynamic, developmental program with the potential to lead to a civil service career in the Federal Government.  

 

After Program completion, Department of the Army Recent Graduates MAY be converted to a permanent position.

 

To be eligible for conversion to a permanent or term position, Recent Graduates must:

 

· Successfully completed at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program.

·  Demonstrate successful job performance.

· Meet the Office of Personnel Management’s qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted

    Perform conventional natural resources management tasks that have well-established boundaries or expectations involving aspects of project operations including Recreation, Contract Administration, Environmental Stewardship, and Environmental Compliance.  Ability to patrol, interpret and enforce rules and regulations regarding use of public lands and waters.  Communicate well both orally and written  with team members and the public. Use computer skills for preparation of correspondences, documents and reports.

    Occupational Requirements:

    Bachelor's Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

    OR

    Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

     

    GS-5: Applicants who meet the basic requirements described in the above occupational requirements are fully qualified for this specified entry grade.

     

    Applicants who wish to qualify for positions at higher grade levels must meet the Basic Occupational Requirements and the following:

     

    GS-7: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level; one year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement.

     

    Examples of specialized experience are: Natural resource management, boundary line/shoreline encroachment management and cultural resource management.

     

    GS-9: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level; master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; or an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

     

    Examples of specialized experience are: Assisting in implementing activities related to forestry, fisheries and wildlife, recreation, boundary line/shoreline encroachment management, investigates violations, performs search and rescue on items such as boating, fishing and hunting accidents and lost persons.

    You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities)in the following areas:

     

    •Knowledge of Forestry, Fish and Wildlife management

    •Ability to enforce rules and regulations rearding public lands and water

    •Ability to communicate effectively/Interpersonal Skills
