Future Appointments: May be Permanent, Temporary, or Term with a tour of duty of Full-Time, Part-Time or Intermittent. The Agency has the option of extending Term Appointments for up to a maximum of four years. 

Salary Range: $55,413 - $82,131

GS-09 - $55,413 - $67,878

GS-10 - $57,979 - $71,713

GS-11 - $67,047 - $82,131

Recruitment Incentives: Incentives may include a recruitment or relocation incentive up to 25% (subject to eligibility and approval).

Promotion Potential: GS-11, will vary by location.

Relocation Expenses Paid: Relocation expenses are authorized and will be paid if you are a current Federal Employee. You will be required to sign a one year service agreement. Failure to fulfill the one year service agreement may result in repayment of relocation expenses.

  • Entails knowledge of information and techniques needed to diagnosis and treat human injuries and diseases including symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Requires knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Qualifications for Nursing Series, 0610

Basic Requirements:

Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.  

Additional Requirements for the GS-09 and above:

For GS-09: 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a master's degree OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level.

For GS-10: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level.

For GS-11: Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) OR 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education OR 1 year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level.

Note: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions which both education and experience are acceptable.


Applicants for Community Health Nurse positions must have graduated from a baccalaureate or higher degree nursing program.

Graduate-level education must have been in nursing with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g., teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration, etc.) or in a closely related non-nursing field directly applicable to the requirements of the position to be filled. Applicants for nurse anesthetist positions at GS-9 and above must have graduated from a course of study for nurses in anesthesia of at least 18 month's duration that was accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists for the year of their graduation.
