NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIREDThis is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.  

 

 

REMARKS : TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: INDEFINITE or TEMPORARY PROMOTION. Selected individual MAY receive an indefinite appointment OR temporary promotion/reassignment. Persons appointed with indefinite status may be separated when their services are no longer needed. If a permanent status employee at the same grade level as this announcement is selected, Nature of Action will be Reassignment; tenure will not change. If a permanent status employee is selected at a higher grade, Nature of Action MAY be Temporary Promotion. Should the need for indefinite time limitations placed on this position no longer exist, the Temporary Promotion and/or the Indefinite Appointment COULD be converted to permanent action without further competition.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS :  Excepted Service Male/Female Enlisted (NTE E7/SFC)

 

WHO CAN APPLY:
GROUP I
- All qualified Male/Female Enlisted (NTE E7/SFC) currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program.

 

GROUP II – All qualified Virginia Army and Air National Guard Male/Female Enlisted (NTE E7/SFC), regardless of employment status (Traditional, Military Technician or AGR). To be considered as a Group II applicant, proof of appointment/enlistment in the Virginia National Guard must be attached if the appointment/enlistment occurred within 60 days prior to, or during, the advertisement period.

 

MILITARY CRITERIA:  Applicant must be qualified and eligible for award of an  MOS as follows:  CMF:  12, 91; MOS:  92S

 

MILITARY ASSIGNMENT :   Applicant selected for this military technician position must occupy a military assignment in the Virginia Army National Guard that ensures proper grade, unit, and MOS prior to placement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Prepares surfaces (i.e., metal, wood and glass) by removing rust, paint, and loose particles.   Sands and evens out dents and scars to assure a smooth and level surface using sanders, scrapers, sandpaper, wire brushes, and paint remover.   Applies coatings to specified areas ensuring that that surfaces are free from skips, runs, and drips.   Applies rustproof compound to areas such as splash panels, quarter panels, seams structural members, and underbody construction.  Applies coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray paint equipment.   Prepares coating materials by tinting, toning, etching, blending, and mixing in various additives (i.e., retardants, hardeners, drying agents, and other additives).   Applies prime, intermediate and final coats of semi-gloss, gloss and other paint, lacquer, enamel, varnish and shellac.   Ensures that match, texture and appearance meet finish requirements.  Replaces and applies markings/lettering as specified by appropriate manuals.  Reads and interprets directions that relate to mixture, use, and application of various kinds of coating materials, solvents, and precoating agents.   Applies Chemical Agent Reactive Coating (CARC) materials in accordance with specifications and dimensions.   Cleans and maintains painting equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   Experience or training which demonstrates the candidate's knowledge of surface preparation (removal of rust, dirt, paint, etc); coating methods (brushing, rolling, and spraying); and coating materials (paints, varnishes, shellacs, etc).   Must have the ability to use tools and equipment associated with the painting trade and to read and interpret directions.    

 

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:   Experience or training which demonstrates the candidate's knowledge of standard surface preparation and coating methods and techniques.   Experience must demonstrate the skill to sand, wire brush, scrape, spackle, putty, prep surfaces and select appropriate tools to complete assigned tasks.  Experience must also demonstrate the skill to brush on, roll on, and spray coating materials, and apply other related methods and techniques, such as cutting-in techniques and dip and overflow methods.   Experience which required the applicant to interpret and follow technical orders, specifications and publications.
