This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Office of Mine Safety and Health Research (OMSHR), Division of Mining Research Operations (DMRO), Fires and Explosions Branch (FEB), Bruceton, Pennsylvania.

The incumbent serves as a technical authority in providing the Branch, and other outside constituents, technical assistance and consultation on mine fire prevention and control. Leads the efforts to conduct experimental studies and to develop models for the various fires common to underground mines and the interaction of these fires with the mine environment and mine ventilation airflows. Conducts project-related research in the specialty area. Reviews research reports and comments received from other scientists participating in the research programs, assesses accuracy and completeness of diagnostic comments received. Publishes reports of research in scientific journals, presenting papers at scientific conferences, and participating in professional societies and technical committees of professional societies. Performs other duties as assigned.
