JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Pathways Intern Program. 

The Department of the Army Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in the Department of Army and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed.

Positions will initially be filled as Temporary NTE 1 year at the GS-3 or GS-4 grade level and may be extended.  

The Department of the Army Pathways Interns may be converted to a permanent position within 120 days of successful completion of the program.

To be eligible for conversion to a permanent or term position, Interns must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program
  • Complete their degree or certificate requirements
  • Meet the Office of Personnel Management's qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted
  • Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and;
  • Perform their job successfully as documented through performance evaluations and/or completion of an Individual Development Plan (IDP)

In order to meet the above requirements for conversion it is highly recommend you have 2 full Semesters or 4 Terms remaining in your degree program.

Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) cost is not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.

Payment of Relocation bonus is not authorized.

Work Schedule may be full-time, part-time, or intermittent.

 

This is a standing register for multiple vacancies within the USACE Great Lakes and Ohio River Division.  Applications will be accepted throughout the duration of this announcement and vacancies will be filled as they become available.

* To be considered, Students must be attending college and live within the commuting area of the location of the position.  Generally, this is identified as the area in which employees can be reasonably expected to commute daily between their residence and the duty location.

Serve as a Student Trainee in one of the Engineering disciplines:  Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Environmental.  Will receive formal/informal and on-the-job training in the application of engineering principles, theories, concepts, and practices.

  •  Assist on various aspects of engineering projects such as, preparing drawings, graphs, and charts.
  • Perform analysis and calculations using standard mathematical engineering formulas and standards.
  • Research and collect technical data for use by senior engineers.
  • Record factual data from tests and other studies by manual or computerized systems.

To qualify at the GS-03 level, applicants must have completed 1 academic year of post high school education.

 

To Qualify at the GS-4 level applicants must have completed 2 academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.

 

Note:  Education must lead to a bachelor's degree with specialization in or directly related to the field in which the student trainee will receive training on the job, i.e. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Environmental Engineering.  The degree of specialization in this field must satisfy upon graduation the specific educational requirements in the qualification standard for  the corresponding two-grade interval position.

 

 


Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
