Position Summary: This position is a Part-Time (not-to-exceed 10 hours per week) Schedule A Excepted Appointment not-to-exceed 20 weeks.  Serves as a research assistant in the Department of Systems and Engineering Management.  Assists with research on the experimental and computational problems related to Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC)-based biosensors.

MAJOR DUTIES:

 

·            Assists faculty in executing research tasks related to Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC)-based biosensors.

·            Sets up and executes experiments with MFCs. 

·            Performs water quality analysis using equipment such as high pressure liquid chromatography and ion chromatography.

·            Uses existing computational code to correlate electrical signals with water quality metrics. 

·            Provides written documentation in the form of technical reports and conference papers on the data and results obtained.

Applicants must have:  Knowledge of basic engineering, microbiology, biomaterials, and water chemistry necessary for carrying out the research project.  Formal knowledge at least equal to that obtained in a Bachelor’s Degree Program in Biology or Engineering preferably complemented by experimental knowledge gained from prior service in a laboratory setting is required.     

 

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.  You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
