This position is located in the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Administration Directorate, Facilities Management Division, Facilities Operations Branch, Glynco, Georgia. The Maintenance Worker performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings and related structures, fixtures and utilities.

Applicable relocation expenses will not be paid.

Being a Maintenance Worker makes you a valuable member of the FLETC team and mission.  The incumbent will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings and related structures, fixtures, and utilities.    

Typical assignments include:

  • Coordinating, monitoring, and performing requisite installation and repair duties for the upkeep, operations and utilization of the Center's specialized training and support facilities.
  • Continual, safe and proper operation of all building systems to include, but not limited to computer controlled firearms target systems, direct digital controlled heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm systems, chiller/boiler systems and auxiliary equipment. 
  • Assisting in writing of necessary reports, specifications and documentation.

While there is no minimum amount of training or experience required, the applicant must have had experience, military or civilian, paid or unpaid, of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-08. The applicant must have experience performing tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings and related structures, fixtures and utilities to include direct digital controlled heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm systems and chiller/boiler systems.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Qualified: This is the lowest category and will be used for candidates who possess the type and quality of experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position and demonstrates basic proficiency in most of the critical competencies.

Physical Demands:  Continually handles objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally may lift and carry items that weigh about 50 pounds. Considerable standing, stooping and bending is required. Also works on ladders and scaffolds, which require the incumbent to work overhead or in stretched, cramped or awkward positions.

Work Environment:  Works inside in areas that are usually crowded and noisy and outside sometimes in bad weather. Is exposed to the possibility of electrical shock, cuts, bruises and broken bones. Also works on scaffolding, high ladders or rooftops. May be required to work shift work and/or weekends. May be required to start work earlier, stay later than normal working hours or be called back for emergencies. Complies with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification for handling of refrigerants and must be able to possess a valid universal license approved by the US EPA, if refrigerant work is required. Hazards may require wearing full-faced pressurized breathing mask which require the mechanic to be clean-shaven. Occasionally required to wear protective clothing where there is possible exposure to gunpowder, toxic refrigerant and/or other hazardous materials.

Due to the physical effort required for this position, successful completion of a pre-employment medical exam is required.
