Reclamation is a contemporary water management agency. Reclamation is best known for Hoover Dam on the Colorado River, Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River and Folsom Dam on the American River. Today we are the largest wholesaler of water in the country and the second largest producer of hydroelectric power in the western United States. This position is being filled in the excepted service under the Pathways Program.  This provides opportunities for high school, vocational and technical, undergraduate, graduate, and professional students to be exposed to the work of the Federal government.  For more information on the Pathways Program, please visit:

Completion of this Internship will not lead to permanent or term employment with the Bureau of Reclamation.

Student Definition:  Students must currently be enrolled in High School or an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); or a professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; or an advanced degree program; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualification degree or certificate, and taking at least a half-time course load (as defined by the institution in which you are enrolled) throughout the duration of the appointment.  You must be in good academic standing (at least a 2.0 GPA or greater on a 4.0 scale for the most recent grading period and accumulative GPA); be at least 16 years of age; a U.S. citizen or U.S. National; and meet the qualification requirements of the position. You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your appointment under the Pathways Internship Program.

Promotion potential of this position is the GS-04 level.  However, this position may be filled at a lower grade. If so, when and if it is determined that a subsequent promotion is warranted, it may be made without further competition.  Promotion up to and including the GS-04 level is neither guaranteed nor automatic.  

These positions are expected to commence in May 2013.  Employment is expected to last until September 2013.  Dates may vary at the discretion of management.

Conducts guided tours (usually in groups of 30 or less) of diversified groups, on the history and function of the grand coulee Power Office.  Makes minor adaptations to standard lectures to keep pace with changing developments and to present information which is informative and accurate.  Answers questions from tourists at the Visitor Center.  Performs all duties consistent with health and safety standards.

Staffs the Grand Coulee Dam Visitor Arrival Center.  Opens and closes the Visitor Arrival Center according to established procedures.  Greets visitors, answers questions, provides information and directs visitors to other resources for in depth information, answers telephones, and informs the public of Reclamation rules and regulations. 

If selection is made below the full performance level, duties assigned shall be appropriate to the grade level of the incumbent.

The selected student will be appointed at either the GS-02 ($10.95 per hour), GS-03 ($11.95 per hour), or GS-04 ($13.41 per hour) federal pay grade level, which is determined by meeting the following qualification requirements:

For the GS-02 level - High school diploma or equivalent; OR 3 months general experience.

For the GS-03 level - Successful completion of 1 academic year of post-high school study (30 semester or 45 quarter hours) that included at least 6 semester hours in courses such as American history, science, and/or public speaking; OR 6 months general experience; OR a combination of education and experience.

For the GS-04 level - Successful completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study (60 semester or 90 quarter hours) that included at least 12 semester hours in courses such as American history, science, and/or public speaking; OR 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience; OR 1 year of specialized experience; OR a combination of education and experience. 

General Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.

Specialized Experience: Experience that involved oral presentation of historical, scientific, or program information to groups; or developing or revising technical, historical, or scientific information for oral presentation to groups.   

Graduated students not continuing their education are not eligible for this position.
