Basic Requirements: Applicants must possess a degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed AND must possess an active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (NOTE: A copy of your current registration as a professional nurse MUST be submitted with your resume. Failure to provide the required documents will render you not eligible for consideration)
In addition, your resume must reflect the following experience:
For GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector; or you completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a master's or equivalent degree. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. (Note - Successfully completed undergraduate course work in nursing; the behavioral, physical, or biological sciences related to nursing; nutrition; public health; and maternal and child health in excess of that required for completion of an associate degree may be substituted for professional nursing experience at the rate of 1 academic year for 9 months of experience).
Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques in the service line patient population; developing patient plan of care; understanding of diagnosis and treatment regimens; follow patient progress toward discharge; promoting patient and family involvement in the total plan of care.
For GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector; or you possess doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education in nursing with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g., teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration, etc.) or in a closely related non-nursing field directly applicable to the requirements of the position to be filled.
Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: experience providing specialized nursing care to adult, geriatric and pediatric patients; providing teaching; direct patient care; diagnostic reasoning; advanced clinical expertise and therapeutic interventions; consultation and referral to physicians, other nurses, and operating room team members.

Incumbent will be assigned to a permanent shift, (8, 10, or 12 hours) but duties, clinical or clerical activities, or patient care needs may require incumbent to be available at other times.
