This full-time registered nurse position is located in the Sterile Processing Service at the West Roxbury campus.  Occasional travel to Jamaica Plain campus is required based on patient care needs.

The incumbent oversees activities and maintains all required documentation/records for vendors involved in the peri-operative care of our veterans.  The incumbent works closely with the Chief of Sterile Processing Service (SPS), peri-operative services, Logistics Service, and the Administrative Officer for the Surgical Service to assure proper business processes are in place to support optimal outcomes for surgical/invasive procedures performed in the surgical suite.  The SPS liaison Nurse must have the technical and operational knowledge and clinical skills in perioperative services to be responsible for planning, organizing, facilitating, and monitoring the business operations and activities and functions of Sterile Processing Service (SPS), Operating Room (OR) and Post Anesthesia Recovery Unit (PACU) and surgical clinic; including operational and capital budgets.

The incumbent assumes responsibilities as designated by the Chief/Nurse Manager of SPS; duties include but are not limited to:  maintaining existing and ordering new instruments, implants, equipment and supplies and acting as a resource preceptor to staff.  In-services staff on existing and new procedures and equipment. 
The SPS liaison demonstrates expertise and comprehensive understanding of the decontamination/sterilization process.   Follows procedures for the set-up, proper use, reprocessing and maintenance of reusable medical equipment (RME) based on the manufacturer’s instructions.  Completes training before use of RME and demonstrates initial/ongoing competency in use of scopes or RME, as applicable to position.

This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments and travel to other campuses.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates must meet all the requirements identified in the VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G, Nurse Qualification Standards

(1) US Citizenship

(2) Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

(3) Current, full, active and unrestricted licensure as a registered professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the U.S. or the District of Columbia. 

(4) Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. 

(5) Experience in Sterile Processing and/or Operating Room required.

(6) Minimum 4 years of successful nursing practice required.

A physical examination prior to placement may be required.  RN's must be proficient in spoken and written English.

BSN preferred
