JOB SUMMARY:

Type of Appointment: This is a Career/Career-Conditional Appointment [This is a full-time, non-dual status (competitive) permanent position and does not require National Guard Membership].

This position is located in the Military Personnel Office (MILPO) of the Army National Guard, Kingsport, TN.

  • Serve as a final reviewer of actions, which may include but are not limited to : accessions, promotions, transfers, boards, promotion eligibility; retirement eligibility and actions that affect eligibility of educational or incentive benefits as well as sensitive, complex cases which involve allegations of inequitable, prejudiced, or similar treatment (e.g. issues of fraudulent enlistment or assignment;       
  • Research removal of military member from active to inactive status and obtain all necessary relevant information regarding cases and issues and provide explanations and interpretations of rules, regulations, procedures, and requirements pertaining to actions taken or recommended;  
  • Draft or prepare related correspondence for appropriate signatures;
  • Enter data in automated systems; 
  • Provide support to maintain a variety of automated systems used to manage service members both locally and statewide;
  • Participate in unit Soldier Readiness Processing (SRP) for those units whose service members are being mobilized to active duty.

In order to qualify for Human Resources Assistant (Military), GS-203-6, you must meet the following:  

Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service, performing clerical/technical military personnel work; preparing and reviewing service member files for complete and accurate documentation or discrepancies; processing military personnel actions; providing advice and/or explanations regarding military personnel regulations, directives, guidelines; drafting correspondence for appropriate signature; using a variety of information systems to process actions (e.g. pay, foreign compensation, promotion), etc.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Permanent Change of Station expenses will not be paid.
2. Work Schedule: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
3. Compensatory time off in lieu of over time used.
4. Travel may be required for training.
