The Psychologist position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Integrated Service Network, Mid-Atlantic (VISN 6), of the Fayetteville VA Medical Center, at the Wilmington Health Care Center (HCC), in Wilmington, North Carolina.  The psychologist will work in and be a part of the Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACT). 

 

The primary job functions of psychologists at this level include:

  • the provision of direct psychological patient care, consultation services on difficult or complex cases;
  • education of staff and trainees
  • applies advanced strategies to a full range of patient problems in his/her work setting

  • exercise judgment in the selection of or adaptation of standard and accepted psychological theories, techniques, and practices in treating patients or developing new techniques and programs for the treatment of clinical populations.

Travel:  Occasional travel may be required

Tour of Duty:  Monday - Friday

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:   

  • U.S. citizenship.  Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Possess a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and
  • Completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA. 
  • Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.

Preferred Experience:

  • Possess at least two or more years of post doctoral employment as a psychologist applying advanced professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient populations; providing professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (up to 3 hours); Standing (up to 3 hours); Repeated bending (up to 1 hour); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13” to 16”; Hearing (aid permitted).
