Tour of Duty: Monday thru Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

NOTE:  The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidate’s education and experience and recommend the step at which the candidate will be placed in that specific grade.  The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.

The Evidence-Based Psychotherapy (EBP) for Post traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Telemental Health Psychologist is a licensed, independent psychologist whose primary function is the delivery of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and/or Pronged Exposure Therapy (PE) via Telemental Health modalities, such as clinical video teleconferencing (CVT).

 

  • Provides a full range of psycho diagnostic and assessment services for Veterans with PTSD and commodity conditions, primarily using Telemental Health modalities.
  • Delivers Cognitive Processing Therapy and/or Prolonged Exposure Therapy through Telemental Health modalities as a primary function; provides a range of other established psychotherapeutic interventions through Telemental Health modalities when needed and when clinically appropriate.
  • Consults with clinic, Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System (SLVHCS), and community-based staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.
  • Periodically performs Compensation & Pension Examinations for Mental Health conditions (e.g., PTSD), consistent with SLVHCS, VISN, and national VHA standards.
  • Responsible for the programmatic development of the SLVHCS PTSD Telemental Health Program (e.g., preparation of Business Plan, Telehealth Service Agreements).
  • Participates in national program evaluation procedures designed to assess clinical impact, patient satisfaction, and other aspects associated with the delivery of evidence-based psychotherapy for PTSD through Telemental Health modalities coordinated by the Office of Mental Health Services in VA Central Office as part of the national Evidence-Based Psychotherapy for PTSD Telemental Health Initiative.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:   

 

U.S. citizenship.  Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

 

Education:

 

(1) Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American

Psychological Association (APA). The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for

which the applicant is to be employed.

     

And

 

(2) Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been

accredited by APA. Exceptions: (1) new VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Central Office of Academic Affiliations at the time that the individual was an intern and (2) VHA facilities who offered full one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement.

 

Licensure: Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates:

 

  • Licensure
  • Experience. In addition to the experience requirement at the GS-12 level, at least 1 additional year of experience as a psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level. In addition the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:

 

  1. Knowledge of and ability to apply, advanced professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient populations.
  2. Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.
  3. Knowledge of clinical research literature
  4. For supervisory assignments
  5. Ability to provide supervision in areas related to behavioral health and social services provision in order to accomplish the organizational goals and objectives.
  6. Ability to provide fair, principled and decisive leadership for a work environment that promotes shared accountability.
