Assignment to the Behavioral Health and Sciences Care Line (BH&S) - As selected Psychiatrist, you will have the opportunity to perform clinical psychiatrist duties involving the collaboration of interdisciplinary clinical team (Psychiatrists, Physician Assistants, Nurses, Social Workers, Psychologists, Psychology Technicians, etc.) in the delivery of services related to mental health treatments. You will be providing psychiatry care for patients with mental health disorders to include but not limited to anxiety, mood, psychotic, substance use induced or related and cognitive disorders. In addition to conducting routine psychiatric evaluations of new and established patients, you will periodically perform compensation and pension evaluations and consults for transplant evaluations. As the needs arise, you may be tasked with psychiatry coverage assignments in various other mental health service areas such as:  Consultation & Liaison, Emergency Department, Acute Inpatient Psychiatry Unit, Mental Health Residential, Rehabilitation and Recovery Units, and/or other CBOCs. Staff psychiatrists are expected (when needed and as assigned) to provide supervision of residents, medical students and allied health professionals.

The majority of daily working hours performed by members of our Psychiatry team are scheduled between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm; however, the expansion of mental health services requires flexible clinic hours in addition to rotational, on-call weekend and night coverage.  It is an exciting time to join our dynamic team working to increase availability of services designed to meet the changing needs of our Veterans who continue to select Lebanon VA Medical Center's 24-hour facility as their provider of choice.

   

NOTE:  Should the mission of this facility’s patient care dictate, the incumbent(s) may be reassigned to another psychiatry position at the medical center or any Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).

 

Lebanon VA Medical Center offers medical, surgical, behavioral health and long-term care services to inpatients and outpatients. It is a teaching hospital, providing a wide range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as education. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care, home care, acute inpatient care, and long-term care.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • U.S. citizenship
  • English language proficiency
  • Physical standards - All applicants must meet the physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to employment may be required.
  • Licensure and Registration – Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or in the District of Columbia. The Physician must maintain a current registration to continue employment with the VA Educational requirements.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:  For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required. First-Year Residency (Internship) - Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was competed. For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review Board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidate's acceptability for residency training. Approved residencies are: Those approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association, in the list published for the year the residency was completed OR Other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. The Board may determine that the residency requirement has been met if the candidate has completed 1 year of postgraduate education.

DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed primarily in an office setting. This position requires some walking, standing, sitting, and carrying/ lifting of light loads.
